-H.264 MPEG-4, FLV, F4V video support
-Streaming support for audio and video with RTMP
-Ability to apply audio filters on a video
-Ability to apply Bitmap filters on a video
-Google Sketchup file import
-Enhanced physics engine with support for dynamic concave rigid bodies
-Byte Array datatype for binary data handling

-Text rendering and performance optimization
-Cross-domain policy support for Shockwave
-Mac OS X Leopard support

They could add to this list:

http://opensmus.sf.net

Direct link to the project pages at SourceForge:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/opensmus/

Source code is available, as well as compiled packages and full documentation. The code was open sourced under a liberal MIT license, which allows both open source and commercial development.

OpenSMUS is the successor to Tabuleiro's Nebulae server, and the initial release is based on the latest version of Nebulae, 2.0.1, incorporating almost 8 years of development history.

Thanks Mauricio!

Director 11 is out! Really!

Director 11 is out! Really! (You'd never know by visiting Adobe.com). The big changes (Unicode, MacIntel Support) have meant it can be a lot of work to make Xtras compatible with Director 11. This has thrown a blowtorch on Xtra developers and a few have, unfortunately, announced they will not be updating or continuing to sell Xtras and are shutting up shop. Some notable losses include

 http://www.andradearts.com/
 http://www.updatestage.com/
 OSControls (!!!)

Note that Xtras from Gary Smith (BuddyAPI, BuddyFile), Tabuleiro (vList, Arca etc), Marmalade (Amplitude), INM (Impressario,SecureNet etc), Schmittmachine (asFFT etc) have already been updated for Director 11, Chris Thorman has indicated that he is planning to update the fabulous (and free) PregEx Xtra (yay!), Electronic Ink has announced D11 version of Printomatic and hopefully the proficient Valentin Schmidt will update his many useful Xtras.
Also note that the Mile High Table from Updatestage has found a new home on Dean's site

It has been quiet, but thats all about to change...

Lots happening in Lingo land over Jan/Feb so far. Version 4 of the Lingoworkshop’s One Sprite Widgets are about to be released (now compatible with LDMs, and have full key-board control) as well as some new tutorials (side scrolling game and multiuser chat environments). Elsewhere,
Magicgate Software's Director Podcast is back after a lengthy hiatus. And the word is that there will be an official announcement from Adobe regarding the imminent release of Director 11. Exciting stuff.

Director 11 is coming! Lock up your IDEs and head for the hills!

Some early reports MAX regarding what Adobe have to say about Director have been fairly underwhelming:

 Flash Player 9 / Actionscript 3 support
 Mac Intel/ Vista / DirectX9
 unicode support
 new 'Adobe CSS' UI
 nine new bitmap filters

However, it appears that the code base for Director has been completely overhauled
with an eye on future development (Director 12 and 13 are already being discussed).
Also, it appears that there are plans to sell Director for $99 to students
(a good way to increase the user base).
